Stay on a previous version of macOS, like Mojave or High Sierra.(There might be some Catalina compatibility issues, but at least it would run.) Switch to the "subscription" version of Photoshop. The "workaround" for the incompatibility of Photoshop CS6 with Catalina would appear to be something like: Catalina won't run 32-bit applications, period. There might be other compatibility issues, but not that one. Mohave will run 32-bit applications just fine. In a MacRumors Forum thread , someone wrote that CS6 does not work on Catalina … some accessory binaries are 32-bit, and they will keep the main program from working.Ī Photoshop Family forum thread also reported problems with opening Photoshop CS6 on Catalina. But in this note, Adobe makes a special point of saying " Adobe does not recommend that customers using old versions of Photoshop upgrade to macOS Catalina." We all know that Adobe ended support for CS6 some time ago.

It can supposedly open a PDF file created from In Design, but that doesn't really help me do what I need. I already own Affinity Photo, so I'm going to do a trial run (if they offer it) of Affinity Publisher. My main concern is that I would be able to open CS6 In Design documents. Interesting.I forgot about Affinity Publisher. It is 64-bit and will work with Catalina.

Like Affinity Photo, it is a stand alone non-subscription professional application that is so inexpensive as to be almost a gift. What you can do is change over to Affinity Publisher which will do what Indesign does and will open Indesign documents. Might be a memory issue, although my iMac does have 12GB ram. However, that's somewhat rare and seems to be avoided by occasionally closing and then re-bootoing ID. The other issue is that occasionally after I've been working for a long time on lots of different documents, ID will freeze the entire computer, making a forced quit and restart necessary. The work around is to change % view.this seems to happen if I'm typing in 200% view, for example, so taking it back to 100% view makes it visible again. It doesn't get deleted, it just becomes invisible. I'll be working with a text block, and then perhaps try to select one word to change or correct it, and the entire text block will "disappear". I worry about it because with even El Capitan, it's a bit wonky. CS6 will work fine.ĭang.that's a major problem as I absolutely need In Design to work.ĭo you know if In Design works with High Sierra? So, if you upgrade to Mojave, Indesign will be non-functional.

Mojave works with 32 bit files, it is Catalina that doesn’t. If the installer is 32-bit what is the work-around for getting CS6 installed on a newer machine with Mohave?

SO.my dilemma is figuring out how to get CS6 on a newer machine that might come with Mohave already installed.

I looked up this 2016 MBPro and it can apparently handle the OS through Mohave. Things SEEM to work now that they are installed.

I upgraded the OS to High Sierra and then installed CS6 via the install disk I own, then upgraded it to the latest version via an update from Adobe's site. Second, I have a 2016 MacBook Pro, and I decided to test things on that one. I read that the INSTALLER part of Adobe CS6 was a 32-bit installer, but the program itself, once installed, ran on 64 bit. I have read about there being a problem with the 32-bit vs. Even what I have with El Capitan required the download of a legacy Java in order to allow Illustrator to work. It's hard to get reliable info about which system CS6 actually works with. I have been reluctant to update the OS and I'm worried about when I need to replace these computers with a new one, which would be running Mohave and soon will be running Catalina when I buy the new Mac. In Design has a few tiny quirks but they are easy to deal with. I've kept both my Macs at El Capitan 10.11.6 because the entire CS6 including In Design all work well enough on that OS. I currently used Photoshop CS6 on older Macs.
